Up here, the rainforest comes down the mountains and meets the reef. It has been looked after for generations, by Traditional Custodians first and by the people who live and work alongside them since. Spend a little time here and you understand why. This is our special part of the world.
Leave Greater is how the local tourism industry puts that care into the ground. Businesses across the region fund native trees for restoration projects in our own back yard, and visitors can add trees of their own. Every tree the program funds is counted below, and the count keeps moving.

Mabi Forest Restoration
Mabi Forest once covered the rich volcanic soils of the Atherton Tablelands. Most of it was cleared for forestry and agriculture, and what survives is now critically endangered. Terrain NRM is revegetating this site with endemic Mabi Forest species, using methods developed over decades of tropical forest restoration in the Wet Tropics. Three stages are underway with a combined target of 7,398 trees, and Stage 3 is in the ground now.
